What We Think:

We think this book is great - of course! - but so do beinning skaters from Singapore to the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, the Second Editon is Out of Print. Liz is working hard to bring out the improved, up-to-date Third Editon by Spring.

In the meantime, if can't wait you may be able to find a used copy on Amazon or look here for a special deal on the original First Editon.

Advanced In-line Skating
Is the local bike path getting a little boring? As a self-appointed inline missionary, it is my constant (and irresistible) desire to enlighten the growing ranks of skaters across the globe to the ever-widening world of rolling opportunities, and inspire them to experience inline skating to its fullest. Today's inline enthusiasts are ready to advance beyond the basics to the next, more adventurous level of skating.

What We Think:

There is so much you can do with wheels attached to your feet! My third book will broaden any skater's horizons.

What We Think:

Liz wrote this book. When it went out of print, Dan converted it to an online database of tours that invites updates from the skating community. California In-Line Skating is the essential guide to all the great places to skate in California.

Learn to In-Line Skate to Look and Feel Great at any Age!
Finally, a video I can recommend to beginning skaters.

Debbie's enthusiasm and teaching sequences are a great way to get started with the basic stride, stopping and turning. Tuck her tips, drills and catchy words of wisdom under your helmet to experience the Merrill Magic.

But please don't try this at home when you see Debbie figure skating without protectve gear in the opening sequences. If she looks like a showgirl, that's because she is!

Fitness In-Line Skating (Fitness Spectrum Series)
I have been recommending this book to serious skaters for years!
by Suzanne Nottingham, Frank Fedel

What We Think:

If you're ready to progress from recreational rolling to serious training, Fitness In-Line Skating, co-authored by my pal Suzanne Nottingham, is your guide. Take the all-important fitness assessment test, then choose one of the six training programs based on your starting fitness level. Each program consists of eight different workouts, where training intensity is determined by heart rate, speed and time. The book is very well organized, complemented by gorgeous color photographs. I think it's the best resource of its kind.

Babes on Blades
Drop physical, mental and spiritual flab through inline skating!
by Suzan Davis
cover Buy the Book Today!
What We Think:

Suzan Davis is the most hilarious and down-to-earth skater I've ever met, and her attitude is a true inspiration to women (and men and children!) everywhere. Her book's main focus is on fun, but there's a lot of expert instruction and advice in there--like how to use a Port-O-Potty with wheels on.

Inline : A Manual of Intermediate to Advanced Techniques
A serious Skater's Guide disguised as a Comic Book!
by William Nealy
cover Buy the Book Today!
What We Think:

If you are unmistakably "from Mars," you'll appreciate William Nealy's trademark hand-drawn and -lettered approach to in-line instruction. His book is really funny but really messy! The artwork is hilarious, and for people who learn best through pictures, the drawings are mostly successful, from beginner basics to tricky street and hill skills. Best of all, he makes wearing the right gear for a skate outing way cool.

Speed on Skates
The first complete guide to speed skating on ice and in-line skates to examine skating techniques in detail for both forms, "Speed on Skates" also includes drills for improving technique, and routines for building strength, speed, flexibility, and stamina.
by Barry Publow
cover Buy the Book Today!
What We Think:

Canadian speedskater Barry Publow is my new mentor. I knew Speed on Skates would be an asset to my inline library, but I never anticipated how useful this book's in-depth explanations of the theories and applications behind speed skating technique, training and even race strategy could be. Barry's advice touches not only my approach to fitness skating and instruction but even improved my alpine skiing! Speed on Skates has infused my training with inspiration and a new sense of purpose. It's easy to recommend this book for every skater's (and speed coach's) library.

How to Jump and Spin on In-Line Skates
Artistic on the ice? Jo Ann Schneider Farris' How to Jump and Spin on In-Line Skates is now out in softcover to help you transition those skills to pavement.
by Jo Ann Schneider Farris, Larisa Gendernalik
cover Buy the Book Today!
What We Think:

In warm and encouraging prose, Jo Ann enthusiastically delivers what her title promises: information about figure skating and instructions for doing many of the moves. She includes a handy glossary and details about the special, ice-style inlines that make jumping and spinning seem familiar to those who have accomplished such moves on the ice. The instructions are not broken out in numbered steps, which may make them a bit harder to follow for novices.

What We Think:

If you travel around the US with your skates in tow, this book is a must-have. It's a directory of over 10,000 miles of converted railway lines rescued from abandonment, available to all Americans for fitness, commuting and recreation. Although not all of these trails are paved, the book's inline skate icon denotes every skate-friendly trail, along with its length, surface description, endpoints and contact information. You can help build a nationwide network of trails by becoming a member of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a non-profit organization (www.railtrails.org).
