| Introducing the SF Marathon By Liz Miller

On August 12, the Savant Group, a family-owned retirement services company based in San Francisco, is sponsoring the Inaugural San Francisco Inline Skate Full and Half Marathons.  The marathons will commence Sunday morning as early as 6:00 a.m. and finish at 10:30 a.m., following a completely flat course along Mason Street in The Presidio, a famous historic landmark.
The first ever inline half and full marathon in the
city of San Francisco is pursuing several worthy goals:
All levels of skaters are welcome. Whether you skate the full (26.2 mile) or half (13.1 mile) marathon, it will be a day to remember as you skate along a perfectly safe, flat, scenic racecourse with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the San Francisco skyline, and more.Raise money for The Savant Group Charitable Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (EIN# 20-3926254), which acts as a benefactor by providing grants to the various and diverse non-profit organizations in our community.

Consolidate available resources to support  SF Bay Area programs in need, such as AIDS Lifecycle, ALS Association, Marin Breast Cancer Foundation, Golden State Scholarship Fund, and many others.

Promote greater participation in outdoor activity and a healthy lifestyle, and expose San Francisco to a community of up to 500 skaters  from all over, including several professionals from Europe eager to compete for over $3000 in prize money.

Repeat this event every year. Why not make it a full San Francisco weekend? If you’re from out of town, discounted rooms are reserved for skaters in a downtown hotel. Then you can join the infamous San Francisco Friday Night Skate, and check out Saturday's Expo at The Sports Basement. If a marathon isn’t enough skating for you, join the locals at Golden Gate Park, the Embarcadero, the Marina, and many other local hot spots! For more information, visit http://www.sanfranciscoinlinemarathon.com/. Besides skater participation, there are still opportunities for sponsors, expo booths and event volunteers. Find contact information for these on the web site. If know you are ready to roll, register now at Active.com. Another way
to participate is to send The Savant Group Charitable Foundation a donation. | Other August 2007 Stories
