What People are Saying About Zephyr Skate Camp
"Yesterday I put my equipment on in my apartment (it was cold outside), walked down several flights of stairs without a near death experience, hopped off a curb into the parking lot, skated in the street and went down the steep hill that requires a 90 degree turn at the bottom to avoid the heavily traveled 55mph street, and proceeded downhill to my local trail (stopping at crossings as needed).
That was the first time I've ever skated here without needing to get in my car and drive to the location. If I got nothing else from the camp besides the basic skills and confidence necessary to do that, it would have been worthwhile. The fact that I got so much more from the sessions and had a lot of fun is a great bonus. Thanks again for all of your help.
Of course, when I was skating back up the mile plus incline out of the river valley, I was wondering why I ever wanted to do a damn fool thing like that ... Do you think Liz would disapprove of using an Acme Rocket Pack? I'm sure if Wile E. Coyote had gone to skate camp he would have had better control."

"Camp was a remarkable experience for me. I loved being with the neat women and I enjoyed that part of the country. But probably the highlight ( besides learning how to stop) was being with your wonderful instructors. What fantastic people. Through their hard work I think everyone had a wonderful time. They were always well-organized, patient, fun, kind and interested. They went out of their way to make us all feel comfortable, no matter what our skill. I would highly recommend this experience for anyone that wants to have a fun time. In fact I am going to keep practicing, with the hope my whole family can go on a tour in the near future. THANKS!"

"I did it! Skated the Strand here in L.A. and the Manhattan Beach Pier for the first time ever yesterday. (Could not have done that before camp, believe me.) What a kick. This and down-hill skiing are two of the most-enjoyable things I've ever done, even though I'm a fairly new skier, too. I can see now why Liz says they're so related.
BTW, Liz, I was the most well-padded person out there, with all joints covered! I saw waaay-too-few helmets. Especially on kids. Obviously, more people need to read your book -- or hear your story about what can happen without head protection.
Looking forward to hearing of my fellow campers' adventures. (Carol, have you tackled Central Park?)"
Happy skating!

Camp 1 inaugural participant, July 15-19 2000"I signed up for the skate camp because I have always been, literally, terrified whenever I came upon a steep hill while wearing my inline skates.
... I never expected to have that much fun and learn so much while enjoying one of my favorite activities. I am also amazed at the instantaneous closeness developed amongst all the participants and instructors since day one. There was such an electrifying chemistry, which resulted in a group bonding during our entire stay. In addition, wow! what a staff! We were never away from their watchful, encouraging, and ever guiding presence. I would need an entire day to write about the highly professional high-end personalized training delivered by each of them. Not only did they take a personal interest in ensuring that each and every one received the attention and assistance needed to overcome whatever challenge but went way beyond the call of duty to ensure everyone's enjoyment and safety. This paragraph barely scratches the surface when attempting to recognize their dedication and commitment.
Every detail of this trip was so carefully orchestrated to promote learning in a safe and non-intimidating setting while making it lots of fun. This camp well exceeded my expectations and this delightfully spectacular experience will stay with us for years to come and have, also, set the standard for my future vacation plans.
Many thanks Andrea Franklin, Mike Merriman, Liz Miller, Kris, and Allan for arming me with the skills to go out and really enjoy inline skating safely and in style. I will see you at the Amish tour in September."
