What We Think:

If you're ready to progress from recreational rolling to serious training, Fitness In-Line Skating, co-authored by my pal Suzanne Nottingham, is your guide. Take the all-important fitness assessment test, then choose one of the six training programs based on your starting fitness level. Each program consists of eight different workouts, where training intensity is determined by heart rate, speed and time. The book is very well organized, complemented by gorgeous color photographs. I think it's the best resource of its kind.

What We Think:

Canadian speedskater Barry Publow is my new mentor. I knew Speed on Skates would be an asset to my inline library, but I never anticipated how useful this book's in-depth explanations of the theories and applications behind speed skating technique, training and even race strategy could be. Barry's advice touches not only my approach to fitness skating and instruction but even improved my alpine skiing! Speed on Skates has infused my training with inspiration and a new sense of purpose. It's easy to recommend this book for every skater's (and speed coach's) library.

For the new Ashtanga Yoga practicer, Power Yoga is an excellent reference to help you memorize the Sun Salutations and learn all about the breathing technique and muscular contractions that result in an aerobic Yoga workout. With practice, you'll gain the skill and flexibility to try some of the poses in the second half of the book, which seem very daunting at first! - Liz

What We Think:

If you are interested in gaining athletic speed and strength beyond that you've added through aerobic and resistance training, Plyometrics are for you. You won't learn about Plyometrics at the Health Club, but this is the secret that seperates top athetes from the rest of us. This book has everything you need to understand what is sometimes called "jump training," and add it to your training program. It even includes skating and skiing specific exercises.
Jumping into Plyometrics is written in the style of a text book, but is appropriate for both individuals and coachs.
